I was just about to order the Pirelli P Zero Rosso tyres in size 245/40/18, however the guy on the phone said I could also fit 255/35/18 as well, this would protect the rim a little more and have a lower profile although they are quite a bit more money (about ?50 a wheel).

But when I went to order online they are the same price, in fact a ?1 cheaper.

But before I order I just want to make sure they will fit my stlye 135 18" wheels OK, it has the Bridgestone runflats on at the moment in 245/40/18??

If I get an answer in the next half hour they could be fitted today, so quick as you like guys!!

I thought the stock rims could take 245 max, 255 would be 0.5" step-up... (This is from memory without checking)

However, I'd stick with the 245's anyway. The 255/35/18 is not a listed 'official' size of course. The gearing will be reduced and will affect your speedo slightly too.

255/35 fits 8.5-10 inch rims and is 25.2 in diameter
245/40 fits 7.5-9.5 inch rims and is 25.7 in diameter

the lower profile is -2% in diameter making the speedo read that much more off (high compared to actual speed) than OEM.
If you have an 8.5 inch rim then I would go for it. If only 8 inch you may find you are bending a little of the tread up at outside edges.

Stick with the 245, the 255 is lower so it wont protect your rim better so thats crap.

Good decision! Let us know how you feel about the change to non-RFs!

You really did the right decision!

The wider ones would have been catastrophic!

Your tyre dealer is full of shit offering you 255/35/18's!

But you did go fot the Pirelli P Zero Rosso's.

Please let me know what you think of them!

My tyre dealer also tryed to sell me those.

I went with another tyre dealer in the end, didn't like what I heard from the first guy.

I asked the second dealer what he would recommend for a 5 series with run flats on at the moment, his answer was......."Anything that isn't a run flat, but if you want the best PS2s or P Zero Neros or Rossos."

At that point I decided to go with him.

He said the Neros are a better tyre and are better than the PS2s in his opinion, grip like shit on a blanket, but they don't last too long, under 10,000 miles for sure. He said the Zeros were similar feel but lasted a lot longer, he said they were 90% performance of the nero but probably 50% more wear.

I had PS2's on our A4 Cab, so it will be nice to try the Pirellis out.

Now need to decide what to do about a spare. What is the kit you get from BMW, compressor and gunk? What does it consist of?

I got the spare, it came standard.
My 18" are extra, I use the standard 16" wheels in the winter.
Traded in the brand new summer tyres for the winter ones
(payed some extra).

When was the last time you had a flat?
I never had a flat on my new cars (driving since 1978).

But one never knows (knock on wood), so I would play
it safe and go for the spare wheel and jack.
It's not that expensive.

I wish you nice milages on your new fine tires but please
let us know if there is any tramlining with the Pirellis.
