Hello,
I am looking to purchase a trunk spoiler for my car and wanted to know what would be a good one. On Ebay I found some that are being sold from Taiwan that you mount with 3m double sided tape. I don't know if I trust double sided tape. Is this how these spoilers mount? Your thoughts... Thanks |

the stock M5 spoilers are mounted with double sided tape. if you want, you can use betalink glue, but you won't be able to remove it afterwards.

OEM M5 , Vorsteiner ($$), RD, ACS are the choices. Original is ALWAYS best.

Came quickly and was a perfect fit and colour match. http://www.ebay.com/itm/320768922810...ht_6387wt_1031 The ACS badges dont hold up too well in heat, so probably a couple drops of superglue would be handy. The provided 3M tape feels very solid as well. |
I got replica M5 trunk lip purchased from regular vendor on this board and they do not fit well. The body shop tried but could not prevent the corners from raising. They blamed it on the lip not fitting the contours of the trunk exactly and the double sided tape is not strong enought to hold it down. I probably will remove and use glue. So, I recommend paying the extra bucks and getting OEM. I know some have had luck with aftermarket lips from posts above, but appears to be 50/50 chance they won't fit right.

Used 3M tape on trunk spoiler, held for 4-5 months then started getting loose.
Reinstalled the trunk this time using beta-link, all I can say is holy shit this stuff is like concrete when it dries and is messy as shit. If you ever attempt to do any installs using beta-link make sure you have someone helping, if you apply the spoiler and it slides around at all then you are in for a headache. |
The thing with aftermarket is, it may not have the proper form when sitting on your trunk, then you have pressure on the spoiler as some indicated here causing it to pull away. I have the OEM M5 rear spoiler held on with the 3M tape that came with it and it hasn't even thought about releasing! If you go with aftermarket and it sits flush across the entire surface you may not have any problems. I will be removing mine and selling it soon. Will replace it with a different type.
