now i also know what a TLF is. but am i right you cannot open the trunk with the key when you have installed it? you depend on the reliability of the electronic, right?

and now another two questions:
what does it cost?
is it an easy DIY to install it?

The cost here in the US was ~$160 primed. Very easy DIY. All that is required is double sided tape that is provided with the part. It's also held in place by the screws of your license plate.

I had mine done at BMW Kohl Aachen. I think it was around 200euros all in.

No. The one I have is Euro. There is a US version available. Lakerpride05's ride has the US version.

No.

The keyhole in the trunklid is not a trunk release. It is a trunk lock. It is to prevent a valet from opening the trunk.

So if you install the finisher, you will not be able to lock the trunklid.

However, since our cars do not come with real valet keys, this is a useless feature. So there is nothing lost with the finisher.

Nooooo in fact the keyhole in the trunklid acts as a trunk release (opening) also. At least on mine. A good way to test the sound of the OEM alarm is to lock it by remote, and then after 1 minute or so go to the trunk and open it by key (by tuning the key) and the trunk will release and thus triggering the alarm. It's quite loud in fact. So imo with the TLF you loose the opening by key factor (not that you are going to use it so often but anyway just as a fact).

just one short question:

buying the TLF depends on a "no" to my question:

is the area around the plate cleaned by the car wash easily or do you have to clean it by hand?
