I'm thinking it won't be that easy. I really don't know for sure without more research (I'll try to do some later if I can) but I have to believe there's some additional modules somewhere in the car that would have to also be installed or upgraded. I really don't think it would be worth doing because really the only benefit to having TPM is that the car will tell you which tire is low. Other than that, there's not much difference. It's possible that TPM may be a little more accurate or might warn you faster if you have a low-pressure situation (since it won't need the tire to rotate before getting a readout) but again, that's probably not worth the extra money and hassle you might run into if you try to upgrade things yourself.

Also, if you think about it, FTM can be better since you don't have to spend any additional money on sensors if you have a winter set of wheels, etc.
I believe you need the receiver to accept the RF signals from the sensors, so don't think this is really possible or worth doing. I think the TPMS maybe a little more sensitive than the FTM, but don't think it's worth the cost and trouble figuring out how to retrofit this =D
I have the two TPMS sensors in my garage, so if anyone is curious on how it looks like I can take a picture sometime.

Now that I have a better idea of how tpm works, can someone explainhow ftm works? They both serve pretty much the same function, what are the differences?

The wheel's rotational speeds are measured while the car is moving via the ABS sensors and if a relative change in rotational speed is measured it flags up a pressure problem.

Currently have the 123 style wheels on my 06 530 and have the FTM, I will be switching over to the 124 style wheels. The 124 wheels that I purchased currently have the TPMS modules installed, do I need to remove them or can I leave them on without it effecting the FTM? I just don't want to hassle of having them removed as the tire guy my end up scratching the wheel.

I don't see why having the sensors installed on an FTM car would matter. The only thing they'd affect is the wheel balance but obviously they'd have to be balanced either way (with or without the sensors...)

You will have extra 0.1 lb at each corner so that will slow you down=P
jk, i will leave it on until you need to change tires, at that time take them off since you don't have any use for them, and sell it! a brand new set cause $170 so i say it definitely worth something. but since it's already installed, there's no point of taking it off now (since you have to pay to remove and rebalance

Alrigth on the same topic... I have a BMW 523i 2007 model .. Currently i have Goodyear Eagle NCT5 17inch Run Flat Tyres installed

I was thinking going for 19inch wheels with M5 rims ..

Well which tyres i should buy?? i mean do i have TPMS or FTMS stuff??

I have a Flat tyre monitor option in my idrive so does it mean i have TPMS?? I have the metal caps on my current tyres.

If the valve stems (not caps) are metal then you have TPMS if not FTM as I believe that is the rule of thumb. I think your car is probably new enough for TPMS.

As for Tires, I believe its alot like wheels, its a matter of personal choice. I personally like Falken tires, as Ive used them at some point or another on all my cars and have never had any issues and the price is always right. Plus I like how Falkens have the rim protector extra thinkness as it saved my rims a couple of times. Check discounttiredirect.com as they have some really good prices and free shipping.

Good Luck
