I'm in the market for some new tires (295/25/20) and I'm debating between the Proxes 4 and Pilot Sport A/S. Which tire is quieter and has better performance? The price difference is not a deciding factor. I'm leaning towards the Toyo's because they have a softer tread wear rating and would seem like they would run quieter.

Also, will 295/25/20 fit without rubbing? I'm currently running 285's with absolutely no rubbing issues ever under severe compression scenarios (my fenders are rolled). My rear wheel offsets are 20x10 +19O.

If I go 295's, the overall diameter will increase by 5mm, which is very minimal and shouldn't cause any rubbing. What I'm concerned about though is the extra 10mm width. I've tried running a 10mm spacer before with my current 285 tire setup and had severe rubbing issues. I couldn't even get over a speed bump or down a driveway without rubbing.

With that being said, theoretically, there should only be an increase of 5mm on each side of the wheel equaling 10mm total. I think I should have enough clearance.

Wheel experts, please chime in! I would like to get new tires ASAP.

No. Your wheel offset is too aggressive. The example you gave with the spacers is an indication of what will happen if you go with 295.

You will be able to run the 295's but without the spacers. You'll have to play with the spacing. You may be able to do a 3mm or a 5mm spacer but you'll have to see. The extra 10mm in tire width size doesnt necessarily equate to giving you an actual 10mm once the tire is mounted on the wheel. My guess is a 5mm spacer will do you right. The look of a 295 rear is awesome.

i say betta safe than sorrie....u dont wanna deal with rubbing issues now, right?!!? or go wit brand that has "wider" stance like the vredsteins plus they're great in rain since ur lookin' for a/s tires!! personally, i like how your car is sitting without the spacers in the pixs....i prefer the "tucked" in look over the flush mount!!

+1000. Its a common misconception that the 295 will rub. Poleposition is the first member I've seen to run a 295 on a rear wheel, thats why I did the same size on my car. Beware of the rim offset because this could shift the tire too far in one direction and make it rub. I've got the Toyo Proxes 4 on right now with about 6 months/6500 miles and they're wearing/riding nicely. One problem is I have to get them balanced at least once a month, or I get vibrations. Pot holes are detrimental to thin tires and big wheels!

Anand -- what's the offset on your rear wheels?

My offset is ET:24. I've got the OEM Radial Spoke 32s.

My offsets (+19) in the rear are a little more aggressive than poleposition's (+23) and anand_rahim's (+24), so that's why I'm concerned that it won't fit. If I run 295's, I'm not going to use a spacer. I posted the spacer pictures just to give you guys an idea of the clearance I'm working with.

Kerry, you still have rubbing right? Or did you roll your fenders?

I have zero rubbing. I started with 18mm spacers which is what tirerack gave me with the Breytons. They rubbed if i drove over a penny. I then went down to 15's. It was better but still rubbed. I then went to 12's and it's now perfect with no rubbing at all. Also, in reference to road noise with the Michelin's, it's really no different than any other tire I've experienced. It is nonexistent in the cabin. Yes, they are a harder compound but I like that. They last longer and still give you the performance once up to temp not to mention, they are fantastic in the inclement weather.

Hmm... interesting. I do like the tread pattern on the Michelin's over the Toyo's. Can someone clarify offset measurements? Is the difference between +19 and +23 = 4mm?
