I am looking to install a towbar on my e61. The towbar and electrics arrived today (Towequipe) but the standard kit does not come with a 7 way bypass relay.

Do I really need a a 7 way bypass relay ?

Does anyone have a wiring diagram so that I can locate the required wires on the car for left/right indicators, brakes, side lights and reversing lights?

How have you guys connected the wiring for the towbar ? Scotchbloks or soldered by stripping the vehicles wires back?

Many thanks

For the record, I purchased a 7 way bypass relay. I did however have trouble wiring it up. I was testing the wires without them being plugged into the cars rear light cluster. Turns out the computer on the car therefore thought there was something wrong with the lights and hence the brake lights on the trailer board did not work correctly. I plugged the wires back into the light cluster and all works fine now.

If using a 7 way bypass relay, you only need to wire up from the trailer board, the indicators, an earth and the red wire .
