2005 530i with 17x8" wheels. My rear tires are worn out, but the fronts (Goodyear RS-A 225/50R17 all-season) are hardly worn at all.

I'm planning to replace the rear tires with a wider tire. I've never had different size tires before... is 245/45R17 going to work?

The choices seem to be Goodyear GT, Michelin Pilot Sport, or Pirelli Pzero Nero all-season. Any votes?

Thanks

I just put continental sport contact size 245/45-17 on my 2004 530i and they fit great and work great. Even though the size is numerically different than the OEM (225/50-17) the actual size is nearly identical.

Really? I have 17" 225/50/17 standard on my 535i.
I can just put 245/45/17 on it?

Are you sure the rubber isn't too wide for the wheels?
Do you have any pictures?

My understanding is the front and rears should be as close as possible in diameter, but having wider rear tires is desirable on E60s... am I off?
