I'm curious, has anyone used tire sealer to fix a flat tire, since I no longer have R/F tires, I've been thinking about buying a can to keep in the trunk, does it work and if so which brand should I get?

Also, how safe is it to keep this stuff in your trunk especially in the summer?

I have no desire to fix or change a wheel on the side of the road.

Fix-A-Flat....i've used it a few times....fills the hole, and pumps up the tire at the same time

If you use it, you'll have to have the tire flushed out when its fixed b/c it won't ever balance otherwise. As a result I stay away from it if possible.

If you have 3 piece wheels, dont use it. It will eat away at the silicone seal and make it eventually leak.
Also, your tire guy will hate having to clean up the big mess inside the tire.

When on the tow truck I face a lot of situations were people call who have a blown tire.

If it's just a small whole it is possible this works. Best chances for it to work is, when the nail, or whatever, is still in the rubber.

But for everything else it is useless and a big mess for the guy who replaces the tire afterwards.

In the last four years I have tried it about thirty times, and it never worked.

Use RFT's, or a real emergency tire, maybe a space saver, or just call a tow truck.
I'd never use this stuff on my car, nor would I veer recommend it.

Last summer, I had a small (unrepairable) gash on the shoulder of the right rear tire and used two cans to fix the tire so as to drive the 150 miles to our house in Colorado.

The tire held air for about five days until the replacement tire set (the old set of tires had about 30,000 miles on them) arrived from TireRack. I guess I put another 200 miles on the puntured tire, but I drove VERY carefully and kept the speed below 60 mph.

The alternative would have been to unload the wagon (we were driving out from CT to CO - ~2,000 miles) and use the donut spare. Not a very attractive alternative IMHO. If I had either been at home or at the house in Colorado, I would have used the donut.

i refrain from using it. the mess is crazy. just buy some plugs and plug the tire if anything for temp uses. I had a pin size puncture on my sidewall. Plugged it with a plug to use for a couple days. drove very carefully until my new tire came. Worked great but I didnt like the feeling. LOL.
