Replaced the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S with the Bridgestone Potenza RE960 AS PP...First thing I noticed when I hit the highway was a feeling that I wasn't getting the quick response when I made turns or lane changes. The ride is definitely quieter (the Michelins were shot and getting really loud so improvement was obviously expected) but there seemed to be some "float" or a delay (for lack of better description) when put it into a corner aggressively or made a quick move or lane change...

I guess I'm not getting that "ride on rails" sensation and confidence that I had before. It's not terrible or anything but definitely noticeable and I'd like to get my big go kart back..

Could this be as simple as a tire pressure issue? I haven't had the chance to check it. I had to make a late road trip last night and just wanted to get there. I'll check it before I head back.

Is there a tire pressure you guys prefer?

Nothing has changed in regards to the car other than the tires and I don't mind a little more noise and stiffness if it gives me my handling back!!

Thanks

RFTs generally have stiffer sidewalls than non .. to compensate I run about 4psi higher than the recommended tire pressures noted on the sticker on the driver door jamb. Most models recommend a psi differential front to back (back are higher) - some inflate evenly all the way around. I prefer the former as it has a definite bearing on handling.

It could be a matter of adjusting to the new tread depth. If your PS's were low depth, they would have less "sway" than new tires with all that thick tread that tends to fold a bit in corners. Some guys go so far as to shave their new tires to avoid this. Just let them get worn in a bit and I imagine you'll be back in business.

This sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing.. "sway" is a good word for it. Sounds like a good time to give her a little workout..I'm in the Smoky Mtns this weekend so I may just have to head over to the Tail of the Dragon and throw it anound some corners

Thanks!

I run non-RFT Bridgestone Potenza 760 Sport 245/45R18 W-rated tires on all four corners. Front 32 psi, rear 39 psi. I also have Active Steering and Active Roll Stabilization. Vehicle seems to track accurately and goes where I steer.

i have the same tires and ran the stock tire pressures(door jamb sticker) on my 550i with 124 style wheels. the fronts wore good, but the rear wore out faster due to being rwd and having a heavy foot. i noticed the rears were a little more worn down the center of the tire. you definetly dont want to over-inflate too much, otherwise you'll get more wear down the center of the tire.
