So replacing my wheel nuts (fortunately in my garage) and the tire Iron just snapped at the head (using just arm strength. The wheels seemed a bit over torqued by dealer but still, I would think the tire iron would be better manufactured. Fortunately I wasnt stuck on side of road changing a flat.Wondering if BMW/ dealer will replace for me.

Can you see the flaw in the cast when you look at the fracture surface? I can see a tiny 'V' in the photo, but does the fracture emanate from that point? Pretty darn interesting. I do fracture mechanics calcs for pressure vessels, but the stress it should take to break something with that much cross section should be huge. It had to have some sort of internal stress riser during the cast process. That's 100% defective if you can fracture a structure like that without any deformation. Metal is ductile, that POS just snapped.
Photos of the fracture surface would be awesome.
You're lucky you didn't hurt yourself or your car when it broke free.

When it broke it just kind of snapped. Almost like breaking a piece of chaulk. it was like as I pulled harder I almost could just feel it tearing the metal. Or perhaps I just have abnormal strength and the ability to tear metal. lol It surprised me that it didnt snap back at me with the force I was pulling.
For now I just put a 17mm socket, wrench and extension in the trunk, just in case i need it. But hope BMW will replace. although I dont know if I would trust only having the tire iron should I ever need for a flat tire incident (knock on wood).
Its all interesting because my company makes alot of jacks and tire irons for OEM's. Just not BMW. So I am not sure but my European counter parts seem to believe the company that does make these has always had issues. Most BMW users probably never use, since they call roadside.

The whole OEM scissor jack and wrench kit is pretty shitty. I've used it a total of 3 times probably and hated it. And that scissor jack is the worse. I'm surprised there haven't been a lot of incidents with these things buckling or falling over.
I just carry a torque wrench with an extension and 17 mm socket in the trunk. I even have a lightweight aluminum jack behind my seat. lol
