I am new to this board and couldnt find a thread that discussed this in length.
I did see the recent thread comparing Kumho to General.
What tires (18" in my case..550i Sport) are respected in their price ranges?
First, lower cost....many I have not heard of or dont have experience. Kumho, Nikko, Sumitumo
Then the regulars. Yokohama, General, Bridgestone, Dunlop, Goodyear, Pirelli, Continental, Michelin etc.
Thoughts on these brands?
I have had good experience with Yokohama and Michelin. I tend to think Michelins are overpriced and Yokohama is a bit of a sweet spot.
I am looking for a good summer tire that is quiet, good ride, safe and has a good treadwear rating.
Appreciate everyones thoughts

Welcome aboard!
I've had good luck with the Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position line of tires over the years. The Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 is probably the most-recommended tire in this Forum and on TireRack.
One comment regarding your criteria ... safety and long treadwear life are sort of a trade-off. A safe tire is one that sticks to the road, and by their nature a sticky tire tends to leave more rubber molecules on the road surface ... hence shorter tread life. Since you are looking to use these as summer-only tires, I wouln't worry as much about treadwear ratings.

first off you need to search a little harder there are tons of threads talking about different tires.
But to answer your question, best bang for your buck is the general exclaim UHP's, they have a very high tire wear rating they are great in the rain fairly quite and best of all very inexpensive. I ran these on my e46 and will be running them again on my e60 once my current tires wear out. Currently I have the toyo T1R's which are very good tires and very capable on the track, the reason I am going to switch back to General's is because the toyo's are very expensive and I don't track my car, and I don't street race the only reason I have these tires is because they were sold with my wheels for a very good price.
