Don't believe the shark fin is for AM/FM radio reception - it's for sat radio and the BMW integrated phone.
As for tinting, they make a new ceramic tint that's not suppose to interfere with radio signals, radar, GPS, etc. I just had it done and it looks great. Haven't noticed any degradation of in-car signal reception either.

Yes TINT TINT TINT! thats a must makes the car look a whole lot better.
I'm too debating on what kind of tint to use... the old school dye tint or the ceramic... I thought I was going to get the dye but then no matter what they say the dye still fades it seems
I wouldnt go with the metallic ones since the BMW Radio antenna is embedded in the rear windscreen.

Non-metallic tint films are generally known for fading over the lifetime. This is because the tint color comes from dyes which are broken down by ultraviolet light over time.
Ceramic and Metallic films are of higher quality, for the most part. They do not rely on such dyes which can break-down.
That being said, window tint will not affect your radio or navigation reception on an E60. So get high-quality tint.
Window tint can block some types of waves, but only when the antenna you are trying to use is inside the car. For example, in my last car I installed an after-market stereo system with navigation. The navigation GPS antenna was installed on my front dashboard, near the windshield wipers. It was inside the car, however. Then I got my front windshield tinted completely, and all of a sudden my GPS couldn't work. This was because the tint film was blocking the GPS signal from getting inside the car.
The antenna you speak of which is printed in the rear window glass.... when you install tint film, the tint will be on the inside of the car. So the antenna will be outside of the tint, and will not be affected.
