If I were you, I would try junkyards, etc and get the 3 stage manifold used - the same manifold is on x5 3.0si, 330, 530 so it's not that hard to find. It's a plastic piece. You will save quite a bit of money this way. I got mine from bmrparts.com but I would not recommend them. They sent a single stage manifold and then it took them several months to send the right part.
Unfortunately my ship has sailed. All parts are on order with Tischer (Getbmwparts.com) and I'm now just eagerly waiting to receive everything. I did some searching on eBay for the manifold and did find a few of the one-stage OEMs, but nothing in a three-stage. I'm sure if I kept looking something would turn up. For reference, here is a list of all the BMWs, this manifold associates with according to realoem.com.

In an effort to squeeze every last HP I can out of the car, I've decided also to add an exhaust system to the mix. The three choices were the REMUS RM Dual Tip, Eisenmann Performance Exhaust or Race Precision. Given my past experiences with Michael at Acute Performance and some of the sound clips I've been listening to on Youtube (not to mention the claims of Dyno testing yielding a 10whp gain and over 20wtq over the stock exhaust), I think the RPI GT Axleback Exhaust will be my choice. I already have the RPi Ram Air Induction Kit installed and BMI Filter with charcoal filter out.
Here's a sound clip, (whiles it definitely no M5 or the likes, it does sound a lot better than stock).

Georgieb,
You may want to consider Dinan High Flow Throttle Body too ... I'm using it right now as you mentioned every bit will add up ...
Very easy to install, here's my post 'bout it from couple yrs ago http://forums.5serie...post__p__968432 ... it may complement your 3-stage intake mod.

BlaSTiWi,
Speaking of squeezing every horsepower you can out of the car, have you every considered swapping the ignition coil set? Check this out:
