My Ride: 2008 535i: June 6th start build, complete June 17th, at NY Port July 5th, at dealer July 10th, took delivery Friday July 13- Plantimum Bronze/Natural Brown Leather/Light Poplar, Sport Package, Sport Auto, Active Steering, Premium Package, CWP & PDC. Dinan Performance Software 384hp & 421 ft/lbs.
One significant change that I have made to the way that I drive since the Dinan software is that I now drive in Auto/Sport mode. For the last 4 years, 3 and 1/2 of which was with my 545 SMG, I have been using the paddles exclusively every time I drive. I have the Sport Auto which is phenomenal, but I find that you go through the revs very quickly in each gear now and the transmission is extremely efficient and fast shifting in Auto/Sport mode. This is so much so that the acceleration is so unbelievably fast in auto/sport that the acceleration thrill has supplanted the paddle shifting thrill.
This is not bad or good, but is a change of habit specifically due to the upgrade and thought it was worth communicating.

Have you figured out if there is any difference between pushing the sport button and just moving the shifter to the left?

I'll check tomorrow.
I agree with the original poster about the speed of the new Steptronic and have used both the sport Auto mode on the recent step releases in the last 7 months. I got mine before the Sport Auto was released in May of 07 and can only shift in "M-Mode". I find absolutely no difference at all even though BMW says pushing the button does offer advantages. If there really are any, there are all so subtle.
