Are there any advantages to installing M5 exhaust on a 545i as:

1) a single exhaust as replacement of the 545i's. Will it sound better? Perform better?

2) If I am crazy enough to relocate the battery, add an M5 pan etc..... will I get anything? Anyone has done it?

Obviously I am doing this for looks at the tail of an M5 looks considerably better... a compromise would be a single exhaust but with the LCI M-Tech tail.

Thanks for sharing experiences or facts!... (i.e. please no replies such as.. i think...... or it should.... as I am basing my decision of shelling $$$$$ todo this based on preferably factual replies.). .

Thanks in advance!

It will sound different, not necessarily better. It depends on what you like. The M5 sounds more high pitched than the 545, so your car will have some of that rasp.

It won't perform better. If anything, performance will get worse. The M5 mufflers are designed for the flow from a high strung V10, with the majority of the engine's power coming from high rpms. It does this while sacrificing low end torque, so therefore not requiring that much backpressue from the exhaust. The 545 produces much of its power from low end torque, and pulling power leveling off near redline. It needs backpressure from the exhaust to do this, and I believe the M5 exhaust would not be able to provide this backpressue.

Do it if you like the sound, but you will be taking a risk with performance.

What proof that a M5 exhaust will rob you of power? Line up your 545i against ICEMAN 316's 550i with M5 Eisenmann Race exhaust. You'll walk him.

Nah, when I beat him both times he never mentioned any leak, just that he was lacking backpressure.

Thanks for the very informative reply. I was indeed intuitively fearing a performance loss re.. the back pressure.. .

I am glad I checked before!. Cheers!
