Thumbs up

I am about to do the SWS-8 Earthquake woofers and amp upgrade, and I noticed on E-bay there was someone selling the 2 Ohm version (SWSxi) instead of the normal 4 Ohm version, however when I go to Earthquake's website, I cant seem to find any data that support that Earthquake even makes and Xi or 2 Ohm version.....so I am wondering if these are legit Earthquake speakers or some knock off?????

Has anybody used these, what are your thoughts...or should I just go with the 4 Ohm version? I know our system runs 2 Ohm, but just wanted to be sure these are authentic Earthquake brand.

thanks

I remember that Earthquake was going to introduce them, so these must be them.

I think this would be most interesting if you're planning to upgrade, using your OEM L7 amp. It could be usefull when you are using an amp that's 1 Ohm stable (you draw more power form the amp that way).

i think that is a wrong type of earthquake sub that you can put it in underneath the seat..

http://www.earthquakesound.com/sws.htm

if you look closely, it is circle with silver in it . but one on ebay doesnt... so it might be knock off or old version

Exactly...that what i am worried about, why wouldnt earthquake have any infor on their website about this new sub???

Also....I dont have the L7 system just the standard US system (Hi-Fi for you boys across the pond) ...what I plan on doing is installing the new SWS-8s and powering them with a PUNCH 200...I think that should about cover my needs for some extra low end bass.

maybe I should just contact earthquak direct about these xi's

Earthquake does not advertise the 2 ohm subs on the website, but they do exist. I spoke to a very nice engineer there at some length about these.

Basically if you want to use the stock BMW amp, go 2 ohm. If you are going to install a new amp, go 4 ohm.

This seller is very good and its from whom I bought my 4ohm subs from. Becareful when using the 2ohms because many amps dont like them.

Hmmmm...insteresting...for some reason I always thought amps were passive when it comes to Ohm rating. I always thought what ever the head unit was, the amp would then follow suit? And the obvious wiring config of the speakers.

Here's what I was thinking Bruce and let me know what your thoughts are.

I was planning to replace the stock amp with a Rockford Fosgate Punch 200.2 which is both 2 and 4 ohm stable. 100w x 2 @ 2ohms or 50w x 2 @ 4ohms.

with that being said, should I go with the 2 Ohm or 4 Ohm version of the SWS-8's??

below is a link to the amp I was thinking, do you think that is enough power?

thanks for your input

I hadn't seen this earlier. Looking at the amp it looks like you can use either the 4 or the 2 ohm version. But it seems underpowered for a 4 ohm SWS-8 because your amp need to be equal or even slightly more powerful than the speaker rating.
