Default Switched power near rearview mirror

Hello,

I'd like to install a dash cam in my pre-LCI E60 near the rearview mirror. Is there a switched power source that I can tap into in the mirror area? Perhaps from the rain sensor? I've read that tapping into the sunroof circuit results in an error message.

I've seen a video guide for the F10, but there doesn't seem to be any info for the E60.

I'm thinking of using an Invisicord to tap into the proper pins in one of the existing connectors without splicing wires. I just need to know which connector and which wires to use.

Thanks!

I'm really just curious. You want the dash cam facing outwards or inside? And why?

Facing outwards towards the front of the car. Twice in the past 2 years, someone has changed lanes into one of my cars and then claimed that I'm the one who changed lanes. Since there were no witnesses who stopped, my insurance ruled me / my wife 50% responsible although we were not (this is the law in my jurisdiction in cases where the two parties disagree and it is not possible to determine who is telling the truth). The first time it happened to my wife in her Volvo XC90, and a few days ago it happened to me in my E60. I now need the rear door, quarter panel, and wheel replaced. I figured enough is enough, and I want a dash cam to prevent assholes from lying in the future. Hopefully I'll never need to use it.

No, the camera is completely self-contained and records on a micro SD card. It loops the recording when the card is full so that the oldest video is deleted and only the most recent video is kept. In an accident, it's the most recent video that counts anyway.

A 4 GB micro SD card can store approximately 1 hour of 1080p video.

Not sure yet. I'm looking on www.dashcamtalk.com.

So nobody knows about the switched power?

Did you find the switch power wire yet? If not, I can check which wire I used for my radar detector tomorrow if needed

Not yet, but I haven't really looked either (car is still at the body shop being repaired).

Thanks,
