There's several ways to roll fenders. The primitive way is to use a baseball bat and prop it against the inside of the fenders on top of the tire and roll the car.
Nowadays, most shops have a tool that mounts onto the hub after the wheel is removed. On the other end of the tool, there's a roller that presses up on the inside of the fender. They would then turn the hub, thereby turning the roller back and forth to press in the fender. At the same time, they would also use a heat gun on the paint near the fender lip to prevent paint cracking. The same technique can be applied to pretty much any car so a shop doesn't have to have experience with working on E60s to do it.
IMO, the coilovers definitely complete the sporty look but I really didn't have any problems with how it looked before either. It's a matter of personal preference I guess. And yes, the overall diameter with 20" wheels and tires would be a bit bigger than the stock 18s.

I have decided to go with 20'' silver r10s. I would really like to try the black, but without any pics, I'm afraid to make a mistake. My next decision is width. I think 9 in the front. Can I go 11 in the rear? Charles at wheelautohaus assured me there would be no rubbing issues with 9's in front 10's in back but other forum members dispute that.

Mine rubbed but I have the sports package. From your signature, it doesn't look like you have the sports pkg so your car might not rub cause it'll be higher....not sure.
Also, I don't think the R10s come in 11" widths.
I'm kinda hoping you'd go with black on your white car. Not sure if you'd like it but it'll definitely be unique.

I do have the sports pack and I have updated my signature. I thought all 6-speed 545's had the sport pack. I found a shop here that will do the fender rolls, although they say they will only do the rear fenders and will not guarantee the paint. They mostly work on track cars so paint isn't an issue. Why don't they want to do the fronts? If the r10's only come in 10's then that part of my decision was easy. How big are the lips?

Sorry, I must have miss the "sport" in your sig. Not sure why they wouldn't do the fronts but mine didn't rub in the front so I don't think you should have any problems there.
I'll measure the lips for you and will post later.

I just added the sport to the signature. I would think you would have more problems in the front than rear. My clearance in the front is about an inch less than the rear.

Yeah but the front pretty much stay that way and doesn't change whereas the back will go lower with more passengers. That's my thought on it. All the cars that I've lowered had rubbing issues in the right rear...maybe something to do with the gas tank?

The rear is 3.25" to the beginning of the rolled edge or 3.75" to the outer edge.
