Thanks for the replies... Listening to the Remus sound clips, it's not too bad at all. I think I'll take the advice of the people who mentioned the valve, and try that first. If it's still not loud enough I'll look at the Remus.
I also had Dinan exhaust at one point but Remus gets my vote.

How bout removing the odd block shape resonator before the stock cans? Has anybody done this? I miss my RPI exhaust, but it was very aggressive sounding. Music to my ears, but far from subtle.

I have the RPI on my 2004 545i. I love it, but it is not tame. It sounds great, but can be a bit loud (especially for back seat passengers). I don't think it is what you are looking for. A video of it post install is on Youtube.
