Thumbs up

The suggested tyre sizes are:

Front 245/35 R19 Y
Rear 275/30 R19Y

Please post your preferred tyre choice and reasons. I have attached a pic below of the options

Also I noticed that buying these tyres from tirerack.com is 50% cheaper than buying them here in South Africa.

Is there anyone who has had experience ordering from tirerack.com from outside the USA. Did you have to pay import duties or other charges apart from shipping?

I have 10 days before the rims arrive so I need to make an informed decision on the tyres.

Thanks in advance

Hello BMW#5

I import tihings every now and then so know a bit how customs works

First shipping for such large items will be a LOT
It seems Motor vehicle tyres attract a duty of about 32%
Then you also have to pay 14% VAT on 110% of the value of the goods ( standard import VAT )
You will then have to pay your clearing agent his fee

For all round performance I have always found the Bridgestone SO-3's to be very good. Go to Autoquip, they are owned by Bridgestone and should give you the best prices

Ive always found the pirellis to be very bad in the wet

The PS2's very good in the dry, but not as good as the SO-3 in the wet. But I have found the to be VERY expensive here. Dont try Tiger wheel and tire, they have no idea as to the difference between PS1 and PS2 and also told be the one size I wanted was not available in the country, when Autoquip had just phoned Michelin 20min before and confirmed there was lots of stock of that size

The normal SportContact2 isnt so nice, but the reformulated ones in the M5 size are apparently excelent, but the wrong size for you

DDont have experience with the Eagles

Hi Speed,
Thanks for the info - I will give Autoquip a call tomorrow.
Prices I got last week - can't remember from where though:

Bridgestone = R6400 each for the rears
Michelin = R4340 each for the rears

Makes me mad that both these tyres cost less than US$ 300 in the US (R1900 )

I'm leaning towards Michelin or Goodyear as they have the best wear and quietness ratings.

WOW thats a good price if they are PS2, I was quoted only R200 less for a pair of 17" 255/40 ones in January

I went for the SO-3 for that car becuase they were about R1700 cheaper

The PS2's are very good especially in the dry

I got hold of Tirerack & they have a department that deals specifically with International shipping.

I should have a quote sometime on Monday.

Did Jim get you a better shipping quote on your F1's?
Are you back in SA?
