Note: I am in no way affiliated with Storm Motorwerks or being paid etc - I bought one of their gear knobs a few years and was so impressed that I thought I should write up a review of this!
Storm Motorwerks has built up a solid reputation for manufacturing high quality, precision products designed for form as well as function.
Their latest product is a replacement for the standard BMW iDrive controller. As always, it's made from a single piece of stainless steel, and milled to click perfectly onto the existing base.
The standard controller is made of plastic, and immediately it is apparent that the Storm Motorwerks product is substantially heavier and generally feels so much more solid than the OEM item.
The Storm Motorwerks controller is available in 2 finishes; Standard stainless steel, and stainless steel with a titanium coating which is a slightly darker grey finish. Both finishes retain the 'brushed' look - this really is a quality product.
Stainless steel finish:
Titanium plated finish:
Having used the iDrive controller now for a few days, it's definitely a must have accessory. The extra weight of the controller is always apparent and every movement feels much more purposeful, much like the SM gear knobs.
The haptic feedback from the iDrive is felt less so due to the weight, and this only serves to make using it much easier.
The controller does not appear out of place at all; in fact it complements the interior nicely. I couldn?t decide which finish looked better in my car - they both really are that good!
Well done Storm Motorwerks on a cracking new product!
