Hey all this is my first time using this forum and I must begin by saying congrats to all admins and all keeping this site running....great, great wealth of info and support from e60 owners.

I recently picked up an '05 545i 4k miles on it. I drove it on the highway(above the speed limit of course) and noticed a pull on the steering wheel in either direction. Sometimes to the right sometimes to the left. I firstly checked my tire pressure and it was 2 psi less on the right tire so I evened both tires out at 32psi like the manual states. I drove it again and still noticed the pull. To explain better while i'm driving straight i notice i have to wobble the wheel to keep the car going straight.

Just for good measure I traded cars with my boss for the day...he's got a '06 650Cic and noticed the difference immediately. He also confirmed the pull of the steering wheel and I now have it in for service. I was wondering if anyone has experienced any such problem before I get the verdict from the mechanics. i have active steering maybe that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance,
P

Sounds like there is something that can be corrected in the steering. What kind of tires - Dunlop run flats? Dunlops have been noted for wearing unevenly.

jsut as an update to....just got a call from the service department and they told me car is tip top its just that active steering causes the wheel to be a bit loose therefore causing slight pull...he also said that the master mechanic drove the car on the west side highway and all seems fine...no irregular tire wear of any sort. He recommended i take some pressure out of the tires...if that doesnt do anything to change the front tires.

any ideas?

No, I disagree with the explanation they told you. AS causes the steering to pull and that it is normal? I have AS and there is zero pull in either direction. AS actually gets heavier up in high speeds.

jiio,

what tires u running up front? for me, maybe its the dssp dunlops that are the culprit...because the head mechanic told me there's nothing mechanically wrong with the car....just fyi i bought and am servicing the car at bmw of manhattan not a dealership but owned by bmw north america. having said that it does seem wierd the explanation they gave me

I ditched my RFTs and have convential tires. My front tires are Toyo T1R 245/35/19. Regardless, whether I had run-flats or not, my car never pulled to either side.

You might want to look into CIP updates. A CIP update might just fix your problem.

There is a recall on certain Dunlops in your variety. Check with your dealer and see if you qualify and if he thinks that might be the problem.
