Was driving home the other day and heard a loud bang... Didn't think I had run over anything, but everything seemed to be OK, so I kept driving. The next time I turned a corner at moderate speed, I heard an awful scraping under the car. I pulled over and looked to see what was going on. I saw that the stabilizer bar was very low to the ground. Got the car home and inspected some more and the culprit was the ball joint at the top of the swing support on the drivers side, it had failed. I have the replacement part(s) on order, but I was wondering if anyone has a good suggestion on how to remove the lower ball joint and more to the point, torque the new ones without damaging the rubber seal around the ball joint when putting the new linkage on?

It is part #8 in the figure.

To replace the end link is very easy. I don't know the actual torque value though. End link screw stem center should have a "hole" either for Torx or Hex bit. Use one of this bit to hold the screw stem and tighten the nut. That is it. I use a crow foot socket along with a torque wrench to tighten the end link in my Volvo.

Someone should know the actual torque value for the end link.

Good luck.
