I was doing some web searching looking for ways to boost HP, and came across these. I searched this site but didn't see much about them. So...

Do they really work, meaning they really add 50HP?
Do they set off CELs?
Do they compromise reliabiilty?

Anything else that I should be aware of?

Thanks guys

50HP, highly doubt that, especially the SSTT1. The SSTT2 at least allows you to vary the boost levels.

IMO: if you really want to go with a TMAP chip/piggyback, go with the jb+...price point is much better and if should you decide to upgrade to the ecu piggyback jb3, you can trade it in (there's a time limit to do that tho).

Neither the SSTT or JB+ should throw CEL's if installed properly. Depending on your model year and software version you might get tuner manipulation/shadow/warranty codes. Most that purchase tmap tunes will also purchase a BT cable or some other scan tool which allow you to scan and delete codes yourself prior to bringing in your car for service.

As far as reliability, I cannot speak about the SSTT, but I did have a jb+ on my e60 for about 2 yrs. No problems what so ever (and I ran it at 75%). Running at slightly raised than normal boost levels should be somewhat safe, just note that a tmap tune does not control timing and fuel pressures like an ecu tune (jb3) would, so stress on the turbos and corresponding components may be more, but it's not like a tmap tune raises boost pressures to high levels like an ecu tune does (which needs all that extra control).

Spend sometime researching on n54tech.com and e90posts, you'll find some good info there.

Good luck
