Spacers, safe or not safe?
#1
I got myself a set of M6 oem wheels for my E61
Are spacers something i should consider? i would like to widen the rear a bit..
the roads are very bad here, lots of bumps etc and i drive like a mad man from time to time... (i fucked all 4 of my replica m6 wheels last month)
the main problem here is that they use concrete pavement and almost all sections have a height difference so its extremely bumpy (not to mention the cracks etc)
i'm concerned about the safety / stability of spacers, is it possible that the bolts would break? (i wouldn't go very wide though)
i do take safety over looks or fun, and i include that in my driving as well... i drive very fast, but without taking unnecessary risks
what is the general experience about spacers? is it something safe? can the bolts break?
any advice please, thanks
the size of the wheels is 8.5J/19" - 9.5J/19"

I have spacers on my M167 rims, they are safe as long as you use the right size (length) bolt to accommodate the size of the spacer. I've never driven on the roads like you described above. So, I can't tell you if this is suitable for that kind of road conditions. BTW - what is your location?

do the spacers make the car less balanced? do you get vibration in the steering wheel / on the wheels?
these pictures show exactly what the situation is here

though its not like this on every road, but mostly on the roads i use most frequently :s

Spacers do a few things to the suspension geometry - they obviously widen your track, but also put a bit more load on your wheel bearings. There are also some esoteric things like scrub radius that affect steering a little bit. None of these things are going to be all that noticeable on a street car with moderate spacers, especially if you are also going to wider wheels and rubber (in my opinion).
On the bolt-length question - with Porsches, the rule of thumb on minimum lug bolt length is that you want at least as much threaded length as the thickness of the bolt or stud. For example, if your lug bolt's threaded diameter is say 5/8", you want at least 5/8" of thread length to be working to keep the wheel on. I think this is a pretty good rule for spacers.

i would only add spacers on the rear
what is the recommended spacer size for a non lowered E61 pre LCI with M6 9.5J /19" offset 17 wheels?
from reading on the forum it seems that 10 to 12mm is the max.. so should i consider 10mm? or will i get rubbing?

10 mm is a safe bet.
I should clarify that I only have spacers on the rear wheels as well. Spacers on the front could be tricky.

are these any good?

what does "system DR" mean? that longer bolts are used ? screw trough?
or is it better to go for the system that different bolts to screw the spacer to the hub and the wheels to the spacer?
