thin ones are more trouble than they are worth. Thicker ones DO put more stress on the wheel bearings, and they do cause issues down the road..granted, a wider and more aggressive ET wheel will do the same. Poorly made ones cause wheel balance issues as well. Mounting that wheel direclty to the hub is best, so I choose to do that over appearance. Claims of improved handling are hogwash as well, especially with spacers most enthusiasts use. this is just my personal take on them after years or toying with them
this is exactly what performance wheel shops will say as well , its a Poser vs Performance issue, I'm all for making things look good but not at the expense of quality................

What size spacers should I get for style 128.....I saw a couple of options from 2 really nice forum members to either get 12mm or 15mm. Maybe all of you can pitch in a bit and guide me through this tough process!

I would idealy like to get agressive real look without giving up the decency factor and sacrifing ride quality.
I am getting tired of using the search button to no avail.....The OP in this post had the same question I basically have, now that I just bought a new 550i with 172's...picking up Friday.

I want to do spacers, Rears for sure....maybe Fronts. I guess I want to know what gives the "best looking" bump-out without rubbing. C told me to use 12mm in the rear, but I am not sure that will be enough considering C has 10mm spacers on the same CSL's that I still have on my 530xi (I still have the 530xi for now, so I am still talking current tense).

I like the way my CSL's look without the spacers, and they are already much more aggressively pushed out than the stock look of the 172's, given the CSL ET45 offset on a recommended BMW OEM ET55. So, if C is pushing another 10mm more than I am with the same rims (effectively reducing his offset now ET35, on the xi), I am not sure 12mm is enough in the rear on the new 550i with 172's??? C is basically riding on an ET of 20mm less than BMW recommends with the staggered Xi setup.

I wonder if 12mm on the 172's will give me a look close to what I have now..or 15mm?. Sorry if this is old news to you RWD guys, but it's all new to me!

If you end up doing 12mm spacers, I'll sell you mine. I want to do 15mm like everyone suggested to me, but I won't do it unless I have a buyer for these first. If you want them, let me know I'll sell them for $100 (plus shipping) + they come with the extended BLACK bolts to match! (Normally $130 at Rogue Engineering) I've only had them back on for a few days. Let me know!

Your wanting 15mm's just convinced me I should do the same! Some have told me the 15mm will cause rubbing, others say no. How come the 12's were no good? Not aggressive looking enough? I certainly will let you know if I decide on the 12's. Your $100 price includes shipping or not? They only cost $118 new (with black lugs), not including shipping...on their website.

What about your fronts?

Thanks!

I have just ordered a set of 172's and am deciding what size spacers to go with, does anyone have close up pics of a car's with 12mm and 15mm so you can see the differance?

The 12mm looks good, but I am being a ridiculous perfectionist and want to go 15mm. Most people would never be able to tell the difference. BTW...The price is $128 w/black lugs + they also charge $10.50 to ship on their website. Let me know
