What up bro? Can you help me out as a real Neophyte when it comes to understanding Tires. I "think" I believe what 4" lip, 30mm offset means. I like "that look" but was wondering what would be a good recommendation for mine? Front 245/35 R 19 Rear 275/30 is what I have now. I'd like a bigger lip. What would you recommend not switching the current tires and how to do it?
IMO, any 19" wheel that has a lip makes the wheel look smaller. The 19" end up looking like 18" wheels. The 172 wheels on your 08 550i look big b/c there isn't a lip. It's the same with 166 wheels. So, if you want deep dish then you need to step up to 20" wheels.

My concern of losing low end torque is probably why I won't change out the Exhaust. Would a Dual Exhaust like Remus/Eisenmann also "potentially" cause torque loss?
No way of knowing unless you dyno the car. I should've dyno'ed mine but the dyno day that was setup a few weeks back in SJ was canceled. Go ahead and get the Remus and remove all three resonators. You'll love it. Ask jet190rs. That's his exact setup.

Still more mods to come and I'm going to make you agonize over it. It should all be done by the Malibu Meet.

Really interesting, and i always thought that going to 20" will not affect the car performance that much (as in straight line acceleration). Your recent run with the G-meter, says it all regardless the RDsport exhaust.

I spoke to my roommate about my wheels last night. He basically said the same thing you did. Larger wheels will not adversely affect the car's straight line acceleration. The only time the larger wheels are a detriment is when cornering. Mind you, these are his words. I don't totally agree with this.

Something is not adding up here though. It's been discussed here that the butterfly valve on the stock 545/550 exhaust is there to keep the back pressure when not at WOT, thus resulting in no torque lost. When the car is at WOT, the butterfly valve opens and there is less back pressure but an increase in horsepower. So, my RDSport exhaust doesn't have this butterfly valve. Doesn't that mean I have less back pressure, therefore less torque down low? Less torque should've made my timed run a little slower.

In anycase, I'm really looking forward to engaging torquey5 in his 550i on the highway. His exhaust setup is a straight pipe. He's still got the three resonators but no mufflers. First time I ran him, he walked me harder than hollywoodtrash or brian1225 in their 550i.

Where is the fun in letting everybody know what I will be getting? The best moment that will always stay with me is the surprise look EBMCS03 (E) got when he first heard the exhaust. It was classic! Right before Bimmerfest 2007, Torquey5 and I drove down with my 166s to sell to E. He picked up two from me Friday night. Of course, E noticed the new 20" wheels but I had another surprise for him after noticing that he hadn't seen the quad exhaust tips nor M5 bumper. I motioned to him to come towards to my car as I was about to start it up. He came to the front passenger side thinking I got an audio upgrade (yes, I did just not the regular kind). Right after I started up the car, E jumped out of the seat and ran to the back. His words "You got quads!!!!"

Your roommate got it backwards. Larger wheels and tires will improve traction and this is beneficial to cornering and handling but it hurts straight line speed due to increased rolling resistance. Notice I said rolling resistance, not necessarily increased weight because you can have larger wheels weighing less than factory size but they still decrease your straight line performance a bit.

As for your exhaust, you forgot that you also have the RDSport X-pipe which is supposed to increase low end torque.

For the wheel setup, I think your new 20" would actually help straight line accelearation compare to the 166s since they are the same width, and I would think your new wheels is lighter. I think the lost in straight line performance may be if you went from 17" to 20" in which the widith goes from 225 to 275 or 285. For my 19" (from stock 17") I don't notice much of a difference since even I have change from 225 to 275, my wheels is like 10lbs lighter at each corner. But then I only have the 525i so I don't really notice much of a difference. I told myself I have to find something light 19" since I can't afford to lose any more power when I upsize my wheels.
