Finally was able to get the RPI axle back exhaust installed in my 530 today. Installation was pretty easy but we did have to trade out the exhaust hangers. Guess the old ones were too worn because they allowed the exhaust the hang down way too far. I actually have AMG heavy duty exhaust hangers in my car now.
Started the car up in the shop and loved the sound at idle. Sounded real nice revving it up too. Got out on the road and put my foot in it and absolutely loved sound. Stopped at a red light and am just smiling. I had the car in D and as usual it shifts at low RPMs. At that point I'm like oh sh*t am I going to have to listen to that all the time? Sounds like there is no muffler at all or even worse like some of those ricer fart can mufflers. So, I put the tranny in sport mode and wind the gears out. This brings the smile back to my face. Cruising home on the interstate the tone is nice not too loud, no droning but I do notice that if I need to accelerate in lower RPMs, say under 3000, the thing is loud. Guess I am going to have to run the car in sport mode and higher RPMs at least until I get used to the new sound.
So far I am 50/50 on being happy. I think as I get more accustomed to the sound the happier I will be.

I think you are referring to some droning that you are getting at the lower rpms, PTL is right in that the sounds will change once you break in the exhaust. I'm not sure that the droning will go away, however I don't have any experience with the RPI exhaust first hand.

After 500 miles it starts going down...after 1000 miles its gone.

I'm not trying to argue with you (PTL) just curious as to what this noise is? From my experience exhausts get louder after the glass pack is burned in.

I think most of it is that it takes a few days to get used to it.

No it's not droning. It is a deep pitched sound that changes with RPM and the amount of pedal pressure I'm using.

Today I had my 27 mile each way commute to work and I am feeling much better about the exhaust. It is louder than I anticipated but I am OK with the volume it produces. The butt dyno says that the gains are impressive. One of the things that I know will be of use is that it is easy to tell when the gas pedal is being pressed more than necessary. That is when I can hear the exhaust more than any other time. I had a chance to drive under some bridges and in a parking deck and like what I heard. Cruising on the intestate at anything over 2500 RPM gives a nice deep sound but not as invasive as I thought it would be yesterday.
I am upgrading my opinion to 75% plus/25% negative. We'll see how things are after the 1000 mile burn in.

BTW, RPI guy, I am surprised there were no stickers or anything in the box. Guess you don't want the free advertising?
