Tirerack says it looks funny to put 225s all around on the factory 18 inch 550 sport wheels since the rear tires will be much skinnier than the wheel. Until now I have only ever had non-staggered snows. I am confused whether to mount 225 or 235s all around (245 is too wide for front snows) or go 225/245 [to mount on the OEM 18 inch sport package wheel].
Thanks for any input

If you are going to be driving in snow or ice (as opposed to on mainly clean roads, just cold weather), I'd go for the narrower tyre all around, perhaps buying a set of 4 "cheap" rims.
Given 225 it's the standard European set-up (OK, on 17 rather than 18), I don't think you should find it too much of a compromise on performance. As for looks - well, it's three months, and I'd rather be safe( r) than look good.
JMHO.

On a 8" wheel a 225/45 18" tyre is OK and the diameter is very close to 245/40 18".
In fact, I'm going to buy this size non RF summer tyres next spring for my 123 wheels.
