i used tint spray so i cant help you with film, sorry.

others will chime in. i think a lot of people when ordering have gone with "light" tint instead of the "smoke" look.

I tried the tint overlay and it was a total disaster. I think the best diy for the spray is AWGs. Hers look really good.

i had dark smoke tint put on mine, the guy has done tint for 20 years and said it was hard to stretch and shrink the material properly over the ridge in the tail light but he did it...took about 30 minutes.

I think you should smoke them just a tiny little bit. A light tint on a silver car would look legit

I think that smoked tail lights look much better on pre LCI cars and post LCI cars. I have a post LCI 550 and would never smoke the taillights as I love the way they look stock.

But if you are going to smoke, go whole hog and smoke em up dark -- makes a statement. I light smoked tail lights best on Alpine White, Jet Black and Black Sapphire Metallic E60s.

Smoke the bottom portion and leave the clear as is. Looks so much better with the clear and smoked red portion. Mine are painted and the lights are exactly how dark I wanted them. From a distance they appear pretty dark, but the closer you get they look deep red. So it doesn't look too dark and cheap. The clear gives it a nice contrast and matches the alpine white.

I tried 2 sets of film as DIY... waste of money. Gonna do the AWG paint job. I have smoked sidemarkers so I plan on smoking the red brake and the white blinker. Should look real nice with the tinted glass. I don't have a day off till the last Sunday in June, but I will post pics once she is smoked.
