I have only dropped it down to 3rd from 6 gear, 60mph a couple of times.....won't that hurt the tranny?
I dont think so... I mean I've done it on my e36 all the time and I got almost 70K out of 1 clutch...
can someone confirm this?
I tried burnouts as well last week and got the clutch overheated message and the gearbox jerked like hell the first days. Now it is pretty much back to normal but it smelled for a week. I actually think changing gears became a little smoother though I might be imagining cause it makes absolutely no sense at all
PS: Car is 2005 550i SMG (obviously) with 55,600 miles

Hi . So last night we went out for my friends birthday & on the way back car just stopped
, it was saying '' the clutch is overheat , if possible keep your vehicle cool'' . I called roadside asist the towed it to my house. This I checked it says safe mode , the car not moving.

hmmm.. do you ride clutch when you drive? If not and you didn't do any spirited driving prior to overheat warning,

, so I have to pay $2000 all together( clutch + labor) it's best price I found, it's cost more then M5's clutch

You could get the clutch for around $300(not sure the exact price but should be around that) from Gary
and when I talked to my local indy shop about the possible future Dinan flywheel and new clutch and he said
$750 for the installation @75 hr. Shop around more!!!

For SMG you have to change whole ''flywheel with clutch assembly '' dealer price for the part is like $1,470 mechanic showed me on his comp his price was $1,280 let me know if I'm wrong I better spend this money for new wheels
However, it's relatively inexpensive so good idea to replace everything while replacing the clutch.

I added whole thing and still comes out $590. and like I mentioned, you can receive 25% off from Gary which is about $442.
So.. I'm sure there are some few parts missing here and there but the most expensive parts are covered already so I can't see how can it be $1280??

hmmmm, I never heard that SMG requires flywheel to be replaced at the same time.
