Hello guys!!!
How are you doing?!!!
I'm new to this forum. I need help with my SMG transmission. Yesterday I tried to make some burnout I don't like to do it to my car just going to buy new tires and tried it, never did it before, tried few times didn't work, never gonna do it again. After this tries I smell the clutch & today I drove about 50mi came back home it still smells and I think I notice some jerking on 1st and 2nd gear. Is it time to change clutch ?
Car has 68,500mi on it and I have extended warranty. Should I take it to the dealer or this smell is normal, by the way gears are shifting with out any problem. Thank you

it's normal for the clutch to smell for few days after excessive clutch slipping like that.
And the way you describe, your clutch is fine
Most common indication of "time to replace clutch" is slipping which you can't miss that horrible feeling!!
BTW, clutch slipping is when you are in gear and try to accelerate, the rpm shoots sky high with no "go".
Here's a youtube video of E60 smg clutch slipping. Watch 1:16 where the driver went WOT and the rpm shoots up
but the speed remains at 40km.

So I have a 6spd and for example ill be in 2nd or 3rd gear, or any gear but 1st, cruising say at 3000rpm (the clutch is depressed the whole time) and i put the gas to the floor and the rpms go up, not redlining or anything but it will basically rev a little higher, i will still be moving, and then it drops a little lower and i really accelerate...ive had many mechanics check it out and they cant figure it out. Ive been in the auto industry for over 5 years and have never seen anything like this. My car goes in for a DME recall on the 28th of this month and im really hoping that fixes it...

hmm let me see if i got this straight and I think I do experience this so I'll mix up with mine.
so let say you are in 2nd gear, change to 3rd gear where rpm is drop to about 3000, let go off the clutch
as you press gas pedal and rpm rise about few hundred then drop few hundred and you really start to accelerating.
this happens in less than 1/2 sec. No?

This is what I experience in my smg. i shift the gear, rpm drops, clutch out rpm rise couple hundred(than where it should be), settle back(drop couple hundred)
then accelerate hard. While doing this, the car still accelerates but not as hard as after this. I only experience while moderate throttle input.
Full WOT doesn't do this.

If what you experience what I experience, I believe it's the heavy ass flywheel and clutch that can't match the engine speed fast enough
while shifting. That's what my indy mechanic told after driving with me. Scared crap outta me that it felt like slipping clutch kinda.
E60 M5 also has this feeling a bit although a lot less noticable than mine(I am assuming they use lighter flywheel/clutch than normal v8 flywheel/clutch but stronger)
I believe dinan flywheel could eliminate this. but $$$

Your flywheel is fine and have a normal behavior. IF you want to get rid of this feeling,
you will have to spend $$$ for a lighter flywheel.

Hi . So last night we went out for my friends birthday & on the way back car just stopped , it was saying '' the clutch is overheat , if possible keep your vehicle cool'' . I called roadside asist the towed it to my house. This I checked it says safe mode , the car not moving.

so when i'm doin 65 MPH on 6th, then let's say I wanna over take a car, so I drop to 3rd or 4th gear and I hit the gas, my car pulls pretty hard, is this a bad thing? I use to do this all the time on e36 back in the days w. my standard manual...?

I do same thing every time and I drop to 2nd gear at 50 mph.
