I just saw this over on the RF 6er board:

This is potentially very promising news...

Earlier this morning I picked up my 645 (January 2004 build) from my dealer who installed the Sirius Satellite retro kit.
$350.00 for the Satellite Radio
$400.00 for the installation (ouch!)
Activated my account with Sirius, everything is working perfectly! Within my 'Entertainment' option, I now have FM AM WB CD SAT options available. Going into SAT displays 'CATEGORY PRESET ALL' options.
However, the following are issues that should be taken into consideration:
1. Your 645 comes with a one (1) year paid subscription. Do not register over the internet as obtaining a credit refund for the first year will be difficult. Just call them on the telephone and they will take care of everything for you.
2. Through December 31, 2004, Sirius is having a special for $495.00 lifetime subscription. Since your car comes with the first year at no charge, they will credit you approximately $150.00 against the lifetime subscription and the actual cost is only $350.00.
3. Note that the lifetime subscription relates to the vehicle and not to you. In the event that you sell your 645 and/or turn in at end of lease, the satellite subscription stays with the car. However, they did indicate that if the vehicle was totalled (not a good thought) or stolen, they do have the ability to transfer the account to your next car.
Enjoy!

Two calls with my dealer, two more calls with BMWNA and all seem to now agree. Sat radio retro-fit is available for MY04s with Nav, but only if you have Sat Prep. If you're like me and ordered the car after BMWNA stopped allowing Sat Prep and Nav, you're SOL, period, apparently for good.

hinkley,
read this bulletin they gave me here>
http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=5205
They told me it was required NOT to have prep as of March04 and that software would fix it anyway.
How can they force cars NOT to get prep, and say it would be OK, then tell us that only the cars WITH prep will be OK to have it??????
This is lunacy!

I just checked with South Bay BMW (So. CAL). Their parts guy checked the "BMW Tech Line" and said no. Can't order parts yet, still a problem, according to them.
If anyone gets any further info, please post.

I'm anxiously awaiting more information from forum members. I meant to call NA yesterday to ask again but didn't find the time. I may try today but I'm not sure they man the phones on Saturday.
By all means, all of us should be calling NA at 800-831-1117 (have your VIN number handy) and ask them. If any of us get a response telling us that the fix is now available, get as many specifics as possible like a service bulletin number, date, etc. It'll be interesting to see what answers we get...
