Stock turbine, stock psi, no point in getting one, if anything it'll hurt performance. Most people just get them for the sound.

Coming from turbo cars, I have always upgraded my BOV. But then again I needed to as I was running higher boost than factory levels. If your running factory boost, your BOV should be more than adequate. I am assuming the 535/335 come with BOV's of course. Another thing to worry about is running rich. It depends on whether or not you are plumbing the BOV back into the intake tract or dumping to the atmosphere. If dumping to the atmosphere, you'll get some cool sounds, but performance may suffer as it will cause the car to run rich. Air/Fuel ratio is calculated by the MAF. Once the air is calculated, the fuel mixture is set. When you dump the air to the atmosphere, you are now running more fuel as the air has escaped causing a rich environment. As for all of the talk about damaging the turbos, that is called compressor surge. Compressor surge occurs if the BOV is adjusted to tightly, if adjustable. This does not allow the air to escape when in a vacuum state (turbo not boosting). This causes a shockwave to bombard the turbo, thus damaging the compressor wheel of the turbo. Just m .02 cents. These statements are true of the cars I have owned. Not sure if it applies to BMW.

It would be good to know what people are talking about besides posting an acronym that some folks may not know.
Maybe just me lol, but I am assuming that BOV = Blow Off Valve?

1) An army of BMW engineers created a silky smooth engine that produces >300hp & >300lbs/ft of torque from ~3L of displacement with minimal turbo lag, running a modest boost pressure of 8.8psi, all that & realitively good fuel mileage if your right foot isn't too heavy. Said engine wins best engine awards, and is giving their rivals at VW/Audi & MB fits.

2) Some dude (with no connection to BMW) re-tools one of his BOVs to fit the new engine & suggest he knows better than the people in #1 and is inviting you to roll the dice on his porduct.

Your choice.

Anyone any idea how a stock 535i deals with excess boost?
Personally, I'd not want to mess particularly with the stock set-up here.

I believe excess boost is managed by the internal wastegate on the turbo. The wastegate will have a preset limit, probably determined by computer/spring activated. Once it hits the max level, the wastegate should open and bleed off the excess boost. Again, I am not too familiar with the BMW Turbo Setup, but this is in theory how it would work on a turbo car.
