I have no problems with the ride on my car, turning circle is not as tight as my previous car, but I have no way of knowing if it would be better with 17inch rims.
IMO the 'official' dimensions look fine, so if you can stick to these I would suggest you do so, then you have no worries.

For a 19x8.5 ac schnitzer I had 15+ offset all around and it looked perfect.

I have Mstyle 167 19" wheels (with 8.5" - 235/35 front - 9.5" - 265/30 rear) setup on mine with offset 12 at front and modified 12 at rear (28-16spacer=12)
Mstyle 166 and Mstyle 167 offsets are 12 front - 28 rear.
In my opinion 9.0" front and 10" rear e60 530i setup, needs offset 20-22 to all 4 wheels, depending on the car's lowering and the possible tire's width.
Here you may find a solution by your own.

edit: I did the calculation for you and i found that offset 20 is the best for a good looking to your desired setup. (9" - 10")

hey guys thanx sooo much for the info....... nicke60...thanx a bunch..i feel alot better now so i placed my order in for the 20.. im thinking that the car is going to ride high if i dont drop it... i will just have to wait and see.. also the lip on the rim is a step lip... trying to be different i know its goingg to make the rim look smaller... but i think this will add strength to the rim itself.. again thanx ericd.
