Do you use the BMW stock system or something else to prevent your E60 from being stolen?

as i found out today, its not that hard to take out the accelerator pedal, and it would trip out anyone who would even think about stealing it

My car came with the BMW standard car alarm/immobiliser. However, I have also put a tracker into the car, at the insistence of my insurance providers. This has ended up giving me more peace of mind, as well as cutting my insurance bill by about EUR 1,000 per year (cost of installation of the tracker was EUR 1,100, and annual sub is EUR 200 or so)

which insurance company do you have MacSid ?

I have BMW top cover and they were pretty easy going whether I would put a tracker in or not...

I ordered the car with the tracking system by BMW . It was optional for EUR 1100 .

A central calls you when the alarm sounds .

I use IAK Verzekeringen as they have rate deals for employees of the company I work for.

BMW Top Cover was offered at EUR 2,636 per annum. IAK offered cover at EUR 1,616 per annum, but only if I put a tracker in (they refused cover without a tracker). Quotes from ANWB, Unive and a couple of others came in at EUR2,300-EUR2,600 per annum. IAK were the only ones who were sticky about the tracker but with the cost of the tracker at EUR 1,100 (including installation) plus EUR 200 or so per year service, it was still going to be one heck of a saving over my planned 4-year ownership of the car, so I went for it.

BMW Den Haag sourced and installed it pre-delivery so all I really had to do was show up with money and ID and sign on the dotted line. Car has its own GSM number now and is constantly monitored by the alarm centre, who will call me or my wife (they have a list of contact names and numbers) if the system is triggered.

All of these rates are for fully-comp insurance.
