Just picked up an 05 530i and immediately noticed there wasnt a satelite option on my I drive... How do I go about getting that installed? Dealer said it would be close to a grand as they have to install and wire the hardware and then perform a huge update on my I drive. That sound right? Any way to perform some of this on my own to save some bucks? Any help would be appreciated!

Probably the best thing to do is first determine if your car has the "Satellite Prep" wiring aleady installed. I can't remember all the dates right now (but they're on the forum somewhere if you're in the mood to search) but early on (2004) the prep was a $75.00 option. Then, after BMW was worried that they couldn't make the Sirius retrofit work, they stopped offering the prep option altogether. Then, after they worked out some software and hardware compatibility issues, they began including the prep wiring at no charge on all cars.

The easiest way for you to determine if your car has the prep is to call BMW NA at 800-831-1117 and give them your VIN number. They'll be able to tell you if your car has the prep or not. Don't believe what the dealer says just yet since many of them are a bit confused/clueless when it comes to all the complex details of the E60...
