I was wondering for anybody with this combo or a similar combo, does this make any sound? I know cold air intakes I have seen on friends cars make a nice roar when you punch it. Does this combination offer anything as far as increased sound?
On an inline 6 530, not the V8. Thanks for any replies.

No apreciable change in sound, it's using the stock air box after all and the scoop doesn't do much until you are moving. On other cars the CAI is usually a totally different design to the stock airbox so the sound will be different.

If you want sound: go with a "CAI"/cone set-up
If you want performance: go with the RPI scoop+stock air box+filter....sound will be negligible as the stock box is enclosed and will "sound" the same as before the scoop and air filter....what you will have achieved with this set up is more "cool" air coming in. The heat soak/hot air coming in from a CAI/cone set-up ha been discussed many times and there are a few dyno's floating around you can find via the search function for more info. Some say the performance can be felt at lower speeds, others state it helps only at higher speeds....
Choose which ever you like....GL with your decision
(if you want show+performance, just get the red over the black scoop

I have a 530Xi Stick and I just installed the RPI scoop+BMC filter yesterday (BTW BMC is reportedly better than K&N) - but my point is: I don't hear ANY difference.
Peformance is definitely improved, but not as much as I expected. And not exactly where it need it. For all the people saying this mod adds "punch" at highway speeds, the top end is still too weak.
BTW I strongly recommend (and someone should really make this a package deal - Michael, Bruce...
) to heat wrap the intake tubing. Actually, I've been told to heat wrap the fuel lines and the exhaust as well, but I'm not about to dismount the manifold (it is single on the I-6, right?) for that
(translation: I'm lazy
)

Thanks for the replies. Does anyone with the 530 have any experience with the sound that the AFE CAI produces? Search doesn't really yield anything relevant to that issue.

You will not hear it, but you WILL feel it!
While you're at it, remove the charcoal filter too for another slight increase in sound and performance!

+1 for more of a feel. some customers have reported back about no sound change (personally I dont hear any change as well in general), and some have reported of hearing more air flow. no doubt though that the gains are there
