Not to take this thread off topic - if the Euro spec cars don't have the charcoal filter what is the purpose of it?
It's to prevent gases from the engine going into the atmosphere. I was actually surprised that Euro cars don't have them because all of Europe is big on emissions.

My Ride: 2004 545i - Bone stock... help!
Default

I have recently installed both. Yesterday was my first trip to Abu Dhabi and there is a noticeable addition to acceleration at 90+, but I also installed the 545 RPI exhaust too so for me, it's a combination of both. The car is more spry at speed than it used to be though (and it used to be quite acceptable!). I think for normal freeway driving in and around the city, most of my improvement comes from the exhaust as I rarely hit 70 around town.

<3 the road to Abu Dhabi .

I don't recommend washing the oil filter. Simply because most people experience MAF problems after they wash and re-oil the filter. Most people use too much oil when they re-oil it and this excess oil gets on the MAF sensor. I would just buy a new one since they come pre oiled with the perfect amount of oil from the factory.
And for the less paranoid type, cleaning the MAF sensor will do wonders.

Hahaha I cleaned the MAF sensor and it really does help a lot.
But when there is too much oil in the filter, you will end up having to clean the MAF sensor very often.
And if you have too little oil you risk getting dirt in the engine. So since they don't cost too much, I would just buy a new one when it needs to be replaced.

Joined the forum today and I just want to share my first ever mod. I bought the scoop and bmc filter from Eloy at RPi yesterday. I got it today and rushed home to install it before sun down.

I have to say that the car feels really great! I am glad to read a couple of CAI discussions in this forum. It saved me from making a mistake in purchasing aFE CAI.

By the way, Eloy was awesome for the 'deal' he did for me. Thanks!
