Good choice - there was a definite improvement in my 530. It isn't noticeable at low speeds, but when you go to pass someone on the freeway, you'll notice it. Did you get the filter as well? I chose the K&N filter over the BMC, but that was preference only.

in addition to persian_535i's reply, specifically there are 2 inlet tunnels (for your M5) that are on each side for the dual intake boxes. those tunnels are directly connected to the air boxes. for the non-M e60s it is only 1, since there is only 1 airbox which is on the driver's side. the scoops take a certain amount of air that enters through the kidney grills directing the air right into the inlet tunnels.
