I hear you and you a have a just point, however, sometimes it can be difficult when you're trying to purchase an exhaust system without hearing it on the same car. As mentioned, YouTube may not be as acurate as being up close and let's face it the exhaust system isn't cheap and it would be a shame to purchase an exhaust system like RPI without absolute excitement.

Thanks for the reply.

I didn't find you tube to be of much help either.
I find the female pimp's comments funny since she doesn't even have the exhaust on her car yet unless her sign needs updating.
There are other reasons to put aftermarket exhausts on a car other than getting a loud exhaust. The sound itself is one, lighter weight and more importantly power. I wanted an exhaust I could hear but it doesn't have to yell at me.
I'm done.

So your opinion is the RPI exhaust sounds good, it's efficient, light weight and it's not a police magnet?

I just had it installed on my 07 550I...was a little skeptical the first few times I started her up, but then I began to love it. Once you get up to 40-45MPH, the loudness goes away unless you tromp on the accelerator or start to decelerate. Other notes I've seen here indicate the loudness starts to subside a little after 1K miles or so...I'm not there yet but I can give an update once I reach that spot!

Sounds great, light weight (all aluminum) and haven't had any problems with law enforcement.

Its NOT TOO loud, it sounds perfect and I couldnt imagine driving my car without it. Fly out here to NY and ill let you drive it, listen to it, whatever floats your boat sir.... and I thought my signature has the fact that I have the RPI on it...

I went with something different. Last week I bought a Dinan exhaust at a 25% discount. I took it to the powder coater last week and had the tips done in semi-gloss black. Picked up the exhaust yesterday and had it installed. So far I love it! It let's everyone know there is V-8 under the hood but not obnoxiously so.

If anyone is interested in a set of OEM exhaust tips powder coated semi-gloss black, let me know.

Based on most of the positive and realistic responses, I'm starting to get a feel for how the exhaust system really sounds and that's great. By the way this is a great forum and I wish I would have found it sooner.

Thanks,

I'm sold. I had an opportunity to look at the exhaust not on a 530i, but on a M5 and I love the construction and the sound was incredible. I realize the sound will be drastically reduced however, I'm certain that it will add that extra excitement to the drive.
