Rims for 530xi

Just acquired an '07 530xi. Someone said that there is an offset that I have to be mindful of for the xi when considering buying custom rims. Can anyone confirm this?
I have the stock 17s that come with the sport package on right now. Without any suspension modifications, what is the largest rim size I'd be able to consider? I'm new at this, so any guidelines you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks!

V_the russian has a thread when it comes to this but I can't seem to find it right now. There's also numerous threads regarding fitment and offsets and so on and so on. Try the search function and it should bring up a whole lot of them.
Some Xi owners we have here have done 20's but most have done 19's. I opted to go with 19's because of our roads here in the northeast. Also, Xi's have a higher offsets than your normal RWD E60.

You will find the majority of Xi owners will go with 19's, although you can go as big as 20's without any issue. The reason that most go with 19's is that the Xi model requires a high offset, which is shared with the 3 series, and 19's are the most popular purchased size wheel for the majority of 3 & 5 series owners (both Xi & non-Xi model 5 series). There are not a lot of 20's available in Xi offsets that is why you do not see as many Xi's with 20's. Please let me know if I can be of any further service. Here's a typical 19 inch set up we sell for Xi models. 19x8.5 ET35 to ET40 offset front & 19x9.5 ET33 to ET40 offset rear depending on wheel manufacturer.
