I have heard many times that the 19" non-runflats are generally better than 18" run flats. I have 19" non-rfs.
Don't forget the brand of tire on the 19" wheels when you compare. Different tires will give a different ride (take a look at the TireRack ratings on each tire).

I think its a lot better... less noisy, not as jerky, feels more planted... I would say go for it.

I guess it depends what you are trying to achieve ... I love the safety and convenience factor of runflats. My next car is specced with comfort seats to cancel out the harsher ride, and individual-audio to cancel out any extra volume
Seriously though, having experienced two punctures at high speed on a motorway with runflats, I really love them. What happened? I slowed down a bit, and carried on driving to my important meeting without a problem. After the meeting, drove to BMW who chucked two new tyres on, explained the others were full of screws, and I drove home. Had I not had runflats, I'd have at best had to pull over and been stranded (as nobody carries two spare tyres) and missed my meeting. At worst, I'd have had to rear blowouts and died.
Personally, I am happy with the slightly less comfortable ride knowing that I have runflats protecting me. And - if I wanted a soft bouncy squidgy ride, I'd have bought a Jaguar, not an M-Sport specced 5

I had a 07 550i SMG with 18" runflats. I thought they were hard on the ride, my wife and kids hated them. My new ride, a 08 550i with 19" non run flats are perfect. The ride quality is a big improvement over the 18"s. They ride like a luxury performance sedan, the way it should be.

19's/non-RFT's definitely have a better ride and feel more planted. On the fast drives, I always felt like I was going to slip off the road with the 18 runflats.
