Yeah, saw this on the insert which comes with the BMW bill.
They didn't give much info on it.
My best guess would be that it will be incorporated through iDrive. It has to somehow get to the iDrive screen. Maybe the latest CIP has this already.

I believe e60speed is right.
I grabbed the insert from my bill and here is what is printed:
The first paragraph says nothing about visual feedback. Only audible.
The second paragraph says the e46 can be retrofitted which doesn't have the iDrive monitor.

In reverse gear, this handy feature sets off warning beeps as you approach an object.? The closer you get the faster it beeps, until there is a continuous tone, indicating "Stop!"
The PDC sensors in this kit mount securely on your rear license plate holder.? Best of all, you can still install a BMW Accessory License Plate Frame!? Suitable for installation on 1999 and newer 3 series and 2004 and newer 5 series models.

This Retrofit Kit is called Basic PDC because it is NOT interfaced through the iDrive. If you get the car built with PDC in the first place, it is called ACTIVE PDC and functions entirely through the iDrive.
Another forum member PMed me about the possibility of retrofitting the Active PDC to a car without it and I am looking into it. Will take a few days to determine feasibility. More later.
