Reprogramming job for retrofits

A pair of questions guys:
First:
I don't have heated steering as factory and I have bought an SMG heated wheel identical to the stock (SMG steering).
Was told by the dealer the car should be reprogrammed all the night after BMW gives them a special key/code.
Is it true?
Second:
I could have ready windshield+HUD unit+dashboard. He told me also this mod would require that KEY (+reprogramming), that BMW wouldn't give because HUD is not a BMW approved retrofit.
Why don't I believe him for both things?
Thanks, bye!

King of Retrofits,
Nicke60gre has new dash with HUD is his car. Has he managed to get it working?
Which wirings would we need to retrofit the HUD?
This is the point, because he had also a 3.0i to install and supercharge but I didn't read any news on the transplant.

I just check from one local fellow who have done lot of mods to his e60 and has tried HUD retrofit. Sad news: he said that coding was not possible. I didn't got more details.
