Reprogram Computer after Lowering 530xi?

My Ride: 2008 Alpine White 550i Sport, Cream Beige Interior, 6-Sp Manual - retired 9/2011
I was told by BMW that if I lower my 530xi with my H&R sport springs that they would have to "reprogram the computer on the car so it's "set u"p for the new ride height after the install." I am not having BMW do the H&R install, but I wanted them to align it a week after. I never heard of the reprogramming issue before. Anyone ever hear of that and what exactly would have to be reprogrammed? I can see the alignment being adjusted, but the computer?
