replacing fog lights, back up lights, signals, etc with white
#1
Hello,
New e60 owner here with a few questions.
Anyone replace the bulbs on the fog lights?
What about the rear back up?
Are any of the lights special types that I cannot do myself?
Id like to switch to either a yellow or super white fog light. The back ups I would just do super white.
I have xenon headlights, but the flashing light next to the xenons are standard bulbs that are not super white. Any issue with switching them out?
I looked in my manual, but I cannot find any information about the flasher headlights, figs or rear back ups. What type of bulb are they?

Mostly everyone has changed out their FOGs to HID's, the bulb type is 9006 with 6000k Temp.
The turn signals for the headlight can vary, some have 7157 and some have 7440/7443 bulb type. You have to take out the signal to verify.
The rear back up lights are 921 bulbs.
I have LED's for all of my bulbs on my car (Except my brake light because of the LCI and its read already so no need for it).
And I've put resistors in my turn signals and reverse lights so that no error message pops up.
Please check out these threads.

Good luck and enjoy. And definitely use the search button on the upper right corner. You'll find a lot of useful information.

Im not too clear on the error message issue in regards to the car.
Why do certain lights create an error message?
Is it not possible to use "standard" super white bulbs as opposed to making my own LED's?
Anyone try a yellow light for the fog lights instead of super white?
Is there a vendor that sells a complete interior or exterior super white light kit?

Only reason why there would be error messages is because the use of LED's. The LED's have lower power consumption compared to standard bulbs. BMW thinks the bulb is out so in turn would give an error message.
You can use standard super white bulbs, but i'll tell you now, they are dimmer than amber and the LED white bulbs. Like they are ridiculously dim to the point where its unusable.
And yes, a lot of people have 3000k standard and HID bulbs for the fog lights.
As for a vendor, there are plenty of vendors, but i dont know if any of them offer a whole package deal. Shop and search around. Good luck!

For yellow fog lights, you can search for posts from member 'advans'. I believe he has pictures of his yellow fogs.
Edit: here is a link to 1 of them: http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=68903

We carry both interior and exterior LED kits.
Standard super white bulbs will work just fine. They aren't nearly as bright as the LED's, but they are bright enough for other drivers to notice your turn signals or hazard lights.
I have 3000k HID fogs and love them. As far as visibility in dense fog, switching to 3000k's really made little to no difference. The standard 55w 4500k low beams provide more than enough illumination. Also, a quick read on yellow foglights and their effectiveness:

Did you ever get the SMD bulbs for your reverse lamps?
