removing the sunroof?

Is there a way to safely remove the sunroof and replace the roof with an aftermarket one or somehow fill the hole left of taking the sun roof out ( I am thinking not but these days people can do some snazzy stuff).
I think it would be a great mod for overall handling with 60-70 pounds removed from the highest point on the car. That would be impressive handling IMO.
Come to think of it, could one just remove all the motor and entire sun roof and just use the same piece of glass on the roof minus all the parts of the sun roof machinery?
