I looked through and read about removing of the resonators. The 545i has 3, two front cylindrical resonators and a center rectangular. Based on one response is it true that removal of the rectangular resonator might cause some droning?
Anybody remove just the cylindrical resonators and how does it sound on an aftermarket exhaust. I removed my aFe today and i feel the sound change
...I do not want to remove 3 as I do not want it to be too loud....I just want a subtle growl of the V8....any comments or suggestions ? Hoping to do it tomorrow????

Three resonators are all performing the same function; minimizing resonance (drone). Removing the rectangular box resonator isn't going to cause any drone. If there happens to be any resonance at all, you can put in a x-pipe.
so u can if you wanted o remove some of them... will t be a significant difference in sound? i used to have a cut out on my old camaro which i could cap and uncp when wanted.. could i use it on my car instead of removing res? just curious

That's what we've been doing here.. on E39 540s... but on E39s the same reasonator is Y shaped...

unlike for example a cls55, where you can remove the resonator it will make the exhaust note more aggresive...
For the 5/6/7 series (4.4L) removal of the reasonators make the exhaust, raspy as hell, and def. will not sound like a v8 anymore! I would recommend, removing all resonators, adding xpipe, and aftermarket mufflers such as magnaflow to get a nice, deep, throaty v8 growl...
