Although possible, I was informed by 3 different shops that it is a very very difficult job. A typical job is like $200-500, they wanted $2K for doing it my 525i, and that was the cheapest. They said they absolutely did not want to touch it, so if they have to, they are going to get paid...at least they were honest about it. Remote start would be so nice during our winters and I miss it so much.
thats ridiculous!

I have a '04 545i.
I wanted remote start as well for the cold ass winters here in MN.
So I talked to a few dealerships here and one other aftermarket shop that deals with alot of our cars.
They all advised me not to do it.
Something to do with the IDrive, electronics.
Not saying you can't do it.
Just relaying what I found out from shops in my area.

I have an 04 525i. Maybe it is MN shops that don't want to do them, sounds like other guys have had it done successfully for cheaper. All I know is that I went to 3 different places and no one wanted to do it, or if I insist, then they are going to gauge me.
